Dancing is a great way to get fit. There are so many dance styles that you can choose to learn. It's a fun and social way to get fit, in shape, lose weight and improve your flexibility. You'll learn the dance moves of the dance style of your choice, plus technical stretching and strengthening exercises. Also, dancing is good for overall fitness and can improve your energy and feeling of well being.

But where to begin?

What dance style do you like? What kind of dancing would you like to try? Does your local gym have dance classes you can take included in your membership?

Taking one dance class a week and one aerobics, cardio or other fitness class will help you to improve faster.

Or maybe you like working out in the gym. Using weights and cardio machines can improve your fitness, strength and help your flexibility.

How about Yoga or Pilates? These techniques will help you to relax, strengthen your lower back muscles and improve your flexibility, help you to tone up and gain more muscualar power and energy needed for dancing.

Maybe you like jazz, breakdance or street styles? There are so many urban style dance classes set to funky pop music that you are sure to find something you enjoy.

Or you might want to try some salsa, merengue or brazilian styles of dancing. You can find lots of these going on in dance and fitness studios as well as Latin bars. Take your class, meet new people and practice your moves in the club later on!!

Whatever you choose, find a style of dance you enjoy and a class you like. That way you'll find practicing the moves easier to learn. Sometimes getting motivated to get fit is hard and we often put off some fitness and exercise workouts. If you're doing something you enjoy you'll get fitter without all the stress and pressure of doing something that you don't really want to do.

Nutrition
Drink lots of water as doing all the extra exercise, training and working out will leave you feeling dehydrated. Water helps to feed the muscles and get the oxygen flowing around your body.

MaDonna Grimes - Dance Street Hip Hop Moves (2006) - DVDEat less sugary foods as these will make your muscles feel more tired and can stop your progress.

Don't drink too much alcohol or smoke cigarettes.

Don't eat for about 1 hour before your class

Take a bottle of water with you and take regular sips during the class or whenever you feel thirsty.

Take a multivitamin and maybe some extra vitamin C once a day to help boost your energy and immune system.

What to wear
Wear loose clothes, tracks and t shirts or a leotard and shorts. If you wear shorts, wear leg warmers as well to keep your muscles warm. When you finish your class always get changed so you don't catch a cold when you go outside as dance classes can make you sweat a lot.
